What are Filters?

Filters allow you to apply automatic actions to emails as they arrive in your Gmail Account.

With reduction to the Storage limit of your @tcd email account about to take effect it is advised you use filters to delete unwanted emails that already exist in your account, as-well-as emails that are received in future.

How to create filters in Gmail

1 . Start by going to gmail.com and sign into your @tcd email account

2 . Click on the "Show Search Options" icon in the Gmail Search bar

3 . Use the drop-down window to enter the search criteria to refine the list of emails your filter will be applied to.
This could include emails you often receive that are not required anymore or subscriptions that you no longer need.
*Top tip: Use the Search operator "
Before:YYYY/MM/DD" to search for any emails received before a certain date.
This will allow you to delete all the emails received before the mentioned date. Learn more about search operators here

4 . Click "Create Filter"

5 . Choose the filter options you want to apply to your filter.

*Top Tip: when creating a filter to delete messages, it is recommended you select the "Delete it" &  the "Also apply filter to matching conversations" options. This will apply your filter to all emails already in your account not just new emails you will receive in future.

6 . Click the "Create Filter" button to save your filter and apply your actions.
