What is Partner Sharing

Partner Sharing allows you to share your photos with another account which can then save a copy.

As your @tcd accounts will have Google Drive and Google Photos removed, you will need to remove data from these app by 31st March 2024 for Google Photos, and 30th April for Google Drive.

You MUST save the photos in your personal account to avoid them being deleted.

Share your photos with a partner

  1. On your computer, log into your TCD account and go to photos.google.com.
  2. Click Settings > Partner sharing > Get started.
  3. Enter your personal Gmail email address.
  4. Select which photos to share, we recommend choosing All Photos
  5. Click Next.
  6. If everything seems right, click Send invitation.

The rest of the steps are completed within your personal account.

Accept the invitation

  1. To accept the invite you need to go to Photos > Sharing in your personal account
  2. Click on View the Invitation and Accept it
  3. You don’t want to share back so click Not Now

Save your partner's photos

This is a VERY IMPORTANT step as if your partner deletes a photo from their Photos account, it's removed from partner sharing. If you save the photo before it's deleted, you can still find it in your Photos library.

  1. Within your personal account, at the top, click Settings > Partner sharing.
  2. Below "Partner sharing", click on Save to Account to see options.
  3. Choose Save All Photos
  4. Click Done.

At this point, please check that all of your photos now show under the "Photos" tab, if they don't, please follow the below steps:

  1. Go to the shared photos in your personal account under the "Sharing" tab.
  2. Select the first photo, so you see a blue tick
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page, hold the Shift button on your keyboard, and select the last photo.
  4. Now that all of your photos are highlighted, click the save button at the top right of the page.

Now all of your photos will appear in your Google Photos account, photos view, search results, and Memories.

Remove your partner

Once the process has been followed, you have the option to remove the partner from your account, you can do this by:

  1. Go to Photos in your personal account
  2. At the top, click SettingsPartner sharing
  3. Click Remove partner

You should still see all the saved photos within your personal account.

Storage

Your storage will not immediately transfer to your personal account but this does not mean your photos have not been saved, if you have followed the steps above and removed your partner, your photos will be safe. However, please ensure your personal account has enough storage to hold all of your transferred photos, if you don't and the storage finally transfers, you may lose data or not be able to send/receive emails.

Deletion

Once you have transferred your photos to a personal account, we ask that you please delete them from your TCD account and remove them from your Bin, this is the only way to reduce the storage used.

These are the preferred steps to delete photos:

  1. Visit photos.google.com/search/_tra_
  2. Select the first image so you see the blue tick
  3. Scroll down to select all or some of your photos (if you have a large amount of photos you may need to delete them in batches). It may be faster to use the “End” key on your keyboard (fn + right arrow, on most compact keyboards).
  4. Hold the Shift key, and the images leading up to the mouse should be highlighted in blue. Click to select the batch.
  5. Click the trash can icon at the top-right of the screen.
  6. Empty your Bin.

You can also do this from the Google Photos phone app:

  1. Pinch your fingers together twice to zoom out the grid as far as possible.
  2. Press and hold on the first image.
  3. Still holding, drag your finger toward the bottom of the screen, and it will start scrolling and selecting more photos.
  4. Every so often, stop and press the trash can icon, then repeat steps 2–4.
  5. Empty your Bin.
