The "Transfer your content" option allows you to copy data from your Google Workspace account to another account.
As your @tcd accounts will have Google Drive and Google Photos removed, you will need to remove your data before your deadline to avoid data loss.
What you can copy
You can copy and transfer these kinds of content from your school account to another Google Account:
-
Drive — Files that you own
- Note: Files in your "Shared with me" folder are not copied automatically. If you want to keep files that other people have shared with you, you need to add them to My Drive yourself before starting the transfer.
-
Gmail — All mail
- Note: Contacts, chats, or tasks will not be copied.
-
Photos — Photos, videos and albums that you own
- Note: Photos and videos in your Trash, Archive, or Locked Folder may not be copied. Whether a photo is marked as a Favourite (starred), along with photo comments, album descriptions and Face Group names, may also not carry over.
Alternative methods:
- Photos can be copied using Partner Sharing, you can find the help guide here.
- Data can be exported using Takeout, you can find the help guide here.
Before you copy the data
Before you start, we recommend using the link below to see how much data you have.
- Check your data here: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/quota (Make sure you are logged into your @tcd account.)
- Check your destination storage: Make sure your personal Google Account has enough free storage for everything you're transferring — Drive, Gmail and Photos combined.
Start the copy process
- Open a new browser instance where you're not logged in to any other accounts. You can also use an incognito window (Chrome), or private mode (Edge/Firefox/Safari) to do this.
- Sign into your @tcd account only.
- On your school account, go to Transfer your content. If you see an error here, go to the Errors section below.
- Enter the email address of the personal Google Account where you want to copy your content.
- Select Send code.
- On your personal Google Account, check your Gmail inbox for a confirmation email from Google. In the email, select Get confirmation code. A new tab will open with a code.
- On your school account, go back to the "Transfer your content" page. Enter the code, then choose Verify.
- You'll now see three toggles: Drive, Gmail and Google Photos. Switch on whichever you want to include — you can transfer all three at once — then select Start transfer.

Errors
If you see this error when you try to transfer your content, please go back to Step 1 of the Start the copy process section. At each stage of the transfer the process will try to default to your personal account, so please ensure you're not logged into any other accounts.
